Mimamsa Foundation for Indic Studies started its journey on 1st of May 2020 as Mimamsa – An Indic Inquiry with a purpose of developing a forum dedicated to a thorough, objective and authentic Indic Inquiry. Apart from publishing strongly researched articles, MFIS engages in a variety of activities like lecture series, interviews, podcasts, courses, workshops among others to take Indic studies to the people. Each year on 1st of May, we at MFIS organise Foundation Day Lecture wherein we invite an eminent scholar, academic, public intellectual to deliver an address on the core theme and vision of MFIS that serves as an inspiration of us and also as an guiding light of MFIS’s activities.
Is there an Indian Political Thought?
In this lecture, Dr. Balagangadhara problematizes the academic scholarship around Indian Political Thought and emphatically argues - - India does have its own indigenous political thought, - To rediscover it, we must read our classical texts through Indian realities — not colonial or Western lenses. Colonialism severed India's connection to its own political traditions. Yet, buried within our texts lies a distinct, powerful Indian political thought — unlike anything shaped by Western ideas.
Dr. S. N. Balagangadhara (aka Balu) is a professor emeritus of the Ghent University in Belgium, and was director of the India Platform and the Research Centre Vergelijkende Cutuurwetenschap (Comparative Science of Cultures).
