About the Workshop

 
The MFIS Workshop on "Studying Indian Caste System" is a one-day long academic exploration into questions about the caste system in India. This is an Offline, in person workshop and is conducted in Pune. The Workshop is conducted by Dr.Sufiya Pathan - well known scholar on Caste Studies, Colonialism, Translation and Indian History.
 
Objectives of the workshop are-
 
  • Examine the fundamental properties of the caste system in India.
  • Learn to read texts about the caste system carefully in order to ask logical questions.
  • Allow students to explore their own experience in order to search for knowledge about their country.

This workshop is designed for the Students, Researchers and Faculties, especially from Humanities and Social Sciences. Workshop will consist of lectures, activity based interactive sessions and dedicated time for questions and answers. For better two-way communication and encouraging involvement of everyone, the workshop is open for limited candidates only. The individuals would be shortlisted on the basis of the application form.

This Session will engage into preliminary questions about the nature of Caste System in India

Making Sense on the Caste "System"

This session will pose some critical questions on the nature of scholarship on Caste so far and study of this "System"

How to Read the Text?

The Session will practically engage with the participants on reading crucial texts and making sense of it.

About Workshop-Instructor

Dr. Sufiya Pathan

Dr Pathan is Associate Professor, Presidency University, Bangalore

Her areas of research are Communalism, Caste Studies, Colonialism, Translation and Indian History. Research commitments are shaped by the research programme ‘Comparative Science of Cultures’. Has coordinated international research projects: 2017-2020 Erasmus+ Jean Monnet module: Teaching and research grant on the topic ‘India-Europe Relations and Diversity Management’
